LOVE COMMITS TO ROBERT MORRIS

Nov 26, 2019

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Corpus Christi IceRays co-captain Tyler Love has announced his NCAA Division I student-athlete commitment to the Robert Morris University Colonials (Atlantic Hockey) in his hometown of Pittsburgh.

The Moon Township, Pa., native is the longest-tenured IceRays player, originally debuting at the end of the 2017-18 season. In 85 regular season appearances, Love has recorded 20 points (6G+14A). Love played in the playoffs each of the past two seasons, represented the NAHL at the 2019 Sirius Junior Club World Cup in Russia and was a part of the South Division team at the 2019 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.

“It’s very special to me to have the opportunity to play Division I hockey for RMU in my hometown,” said Love. “I started playing hockey in the Island Colonials House League and have so many great memories of playing in their home rink for most of my youth hockey. I have always been a fan of RMU hockey and I’m excited for a top-notch education as well.”

“I’m thrilled for Tyler to realize his dream to play Division I hockey, and so close to home as well,” said IceRays head coach and GM Al Rooney. “He’s done everything the right way on and off the ice, he’s been one of our most consistent and top players this season so he earned every bit of this.”

Love, a 5-10, 175-pound, right-shot defenseman is the seventh current IceRays player to commit to a Division I school, including fellow Robert Morris commits Ryan Coughlin and Tyler Orban. Love was named co-captain earlier this season and has been an integral part of the IceRays’ efforts in the Coastal Bend community. Last season, he played for then-IceRays head coach Ryan Cruthers, who is now an assistant coach at RMU.

The IceRays remain home the next two weekends with games against the New Mexico Ice Wolves (Nov. 29-30) and Lone Star Brahmas (Dec. 6-7). Tickets for all 2019-20 IceRays games are on sale at the American Bank Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets. IceRays games can be heard live on Sports Radio Corpus Christi 1230 AM-95.1 FM-96.1 FM (KSIX-AM/FM) and mixlr.com/icerays, and can be viewed on HockeyTV (HD iPPV).
