Dec 6, 2019

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays picked up a big 3-1 win Friday against the NAHL’s top team, the Lone Star Brahmas, at American Bank Center. The win moved the IceRays (13-12-2-3, 31 pts.) above the .500 mark at the midway point of the 2019-20 season.

Corpus Christi received goals from Jerry Mulack, Shane Bull and Evan Carroll, as well as 22 saves from Cal Sandquist.

Following a scoreless first period, Lone Star’s Mitchell Digby got things started with a shorthanded goal at 10:07 of the second period. Digby’s goal completed a tic-tac-toe passing sequence started by Noah Roofe and continued by Matt Guerra to Digby.

Just over three minutes later, Mulack tied the game with his first career NAHL goal, firing the puck in from the left wing. Sacha Guillemain and Stephen Kyrkostas recorded the assists.

Shane Bull gave Corpus Christi the lead with his 10th goal of the season coming midway through the third period, a wraparound effort assisted by his twin brother, Noah. With 1:26 remaining, Carroll notched an empty-net goal from the neutral zone to secure the win.

The IceRays went 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. Lone Star (21-7-0-1, 43 pts.) had a six-game road winning streak came to an end.

The IceRays and Brahmas rematch Saturday in Corpus Christi’s annual Teddy Bear Toss game presented by Braselton Homes and Pest Patrol. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. CT.
