Rookie Netminder Earns Highest Rating Among NAHL Goaltenders
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Yegor Batsokin has been named to the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Players to Watch List. Of the four goaltenders named from the NAHL, Batsokin received the highest rating.
The list features draft-eligible prospects from major developmental leagues across North America and Europe. It will be updated throughout the season as scouts continue to evaluate players.
Batsokin is playing in his first season in North America after moving from his hometown of Shumerlya, Russia. The 6-foot-6, 204-pound netminder made an immediate impact at the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota, this past September. In his first appearance with the IceRays, Batsokin stopped 25 of 26 shots in a 2-1 victory over the Idaho Falls Spud Kings.
That performance marked the beginning of a stellar month to open his first season across the pond. The 2009-born goaltender has posted an impressive 1.50 goals-against average (GAA) and a .939 save percentage through four starts, with both statistics ranking among the top 10 in the NAHL among qualified goaltenders.
NHL Central Scouting assigned Batsokin a “C” rating, indicating he could be a potential fourth- or fifth-round selection in the upcoming NHL Draft. He is one of 17 goaltenders on the list to receive a “C” rating or higher.
“We’re incredibly proud of Yegor and the work he’s put in to earn this recognition, said head coach Nick Skerlick.” Coming to North America for his first season is a big adjustment, and he’s handled it exceptionally well. His size, composure, and competitiveness have made an immediate impact for our team, and his performance at the NAHL Showcase was just the beginning. Being recognized by NHL Central Scouting is a testament to his hard work and potential, and we’re excited to see him continue to develop throughout the season.”
