ALUMNI: RYAN GARBUTT ACQUIRED BY CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks announced today they have acquired defenseman Trevor Daley and forward Ryan Garbutt from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Patrick Sharp and defenseman Stephen Johns.

"On behalf of the entire Blackhawks organization, I'd like to thank Patrick for all that he helped our franchise accomplish during his time in Chicago, especially serving an integral role in bringing us three Stanley Cup championships,” said VP/GM Stan Bowman. “He was one of our leaders on the ice, most notably as an alternate captain for several seasons, as well as off the ice with his countless contributions and volunteer work with team partners, sponsors and Blackhawks fans everywhere. He will forever be a Blackhawk and we wish him and his family nothing but the best in Dallas and beyond."

Daley, 31, recorded career highs with 16 goals, 22 assists and 38 points in 68 regular-season games last year with the Stars. He ranked second among team blueliners in points and sixth overall on the team in goals. The Toronto native shared seventh among National Hockey League defensemen with six power-play goals and shared fourth on the club with 12 power-play points. He ranked second on Dallas with 123 blocked shots. Daley set a career high with three points (1G, 2A) on Jan. 29 at Ottawa.

Daley has posted 231 points (67G, 164A) in 756 career regular-season games over 11 seasons with Dallas, which drafted him in the second round (43rd overall) in the 2002 NHL Draft. He has added seven points (4G, 3A) in 35 career Stanley Cup playoff games. Daley tallied one assist in seven games with Team Canada at the 2006 World Championships.

Garbutt, 29, tallied 25 points (8G, 17A) in 67 regular-season games with Dallas last season, setting a career high in assists. The Winnipeg native ranked fourth on the team with 55 penalty minutes and 143 shots on goal and shared ninth with 82 hits. Garbutt has notched 70 points (30G, 40A) over 198 career games, all with Dallas.

Sharp, 33, recorded 43 points (16G, 27A) in 68 regular-season games last season; he also added 15 points (5G, 10A) in 23 Stanley Cup Playoff games while helping the Blackhawks to their third Stanley Cup championship in six years. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native appeared in 679 regular-season games over the past 10 seasons with Chicago, totaling 511 points (239 G, 272 A). Sharp has added 81 points (43G, 38A) in 129 Stanley Cup Playoff games with Chicago and the Philadelphia Flyers. He earned a career-best 22 points (11G, 11A) in the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs en route to his first of three Stanley Cup championships with Chicago (2010, 2013 and 2015). He was acquired by the Blackhawks via a trade with the Flyers on Dec. 5, 2005. He was selected by Philadelphia in the third round of the 2001 NHL Draft (95th overall).

Johns, 23, registered a career-high 21 points (4G, 17A) in 51 regular-season games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League last year; he paced the club with seven points (3G, 4A) in eight Calder Cup playoff contests. The Ellwood City, Penn., native has recorded 26 points (5G, 21A) in 59 regular-season games across two season with Rockford. He was drafted by Chicago in the second round (60th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.
