BEN MYERS STOPS 42 SHOTS IN LOSS TO TEXAS

Jan 12, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays were unable to solve the Texas Tornado on Saturday night as 42 saves by Ben Myers was not enough in a 2-0 loss in front of 3,437 fans inside the American Bank Center.

In the first period, Hunter Leisner stopped two opportunities by the IceRays to keep the game scoreless.  Joe Ginley was stopped by Leisner on a backhand breakaway chance.  The Tornado netminder then denied a two-on-one chance with Rudy Sulmonte and Perry D’Arrisso.

The eventual game winner came off the stick of Jackson Leef once again.  The puck went off the glass behind the net and bounced around right onto the awaiting blade of Leef who had an easy tap in goal at 7:46 of the final period.  Assists were given to Louie Rowe and CJ Reuschlein.

Scott Conway added an empty net goal with three seconds left in the game after intercepting a Beau Walker pass with Ben Myers on the bench and the extra attacker on the ice.

Leisner stopped all 29 shots he faced in the shutout win.

The IceRays are on the road this week for four games in six days.  Tuesday and Wednesday, Corpus Christi is in Wichita Falls to battle the Wildcats.  Coverage can be heard live on 91.1FM KSGR, ksgr.org, ustream.com, and fasthockey.com
