Corpus Christi, TX (Dec. 30, 2022) – The Corpus Christi IceRays faced another tough test and dropped their 7th in a row at the hands of the Shreveport Mudbugs at the American Bank Center on Friday, December 30th, 2022.
Game Action
Dylan Contreras got the IceRays off and running on a beautiful give and go with Logan Neilson after they capitalized on a Shreveport turnover at their defensive blue line just 4:48 into the game.
Maksim Sushchynski tied the score at 1 on a long-range wrister through traffic that beat Lukas Malant glove side at the 6:13 mark of the first. Logan Gotinski then capitalized on an IceRays defensive zone turnover after taking the Eric Vitale pass and rifling one home from the right-wing circle to give the mudbugs a 2-1 lead.
The IceRays strung together several good shifts during what was a physical 2nd period and had some good looks at the net but were unable to solve Tommy Aitken. Ryan Burke ripped one by the glove side of Malant for his 5th of the year on what was another Corpus Christi defensive zone turnover to give the Mudbugs a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Drake Morse found the back of the net five minutes into the third for his eighth of the year, and then Ryan Burke notched a power play tally from in tight for his second of the game at the 12:36 mark, which resulted in another decisive victory for the Mudbugs.
The IceRays were scoreless on just one power play opportunity tonight. The Mudbugs went 1 for 3 on the power play. The Mudbugs outshot the IceRays 36-27 in route to the victory.
