COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AS TEXAS STEALS 4-3 WIN OVER RAYS’

Jan 10, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays trailed 3-0 after the first period, but tallied three goals of their own in the second to tie the game at three a piece after 40min.  In the third however, a bouncing puck was chopped at and proved to be the game winner for the Tornado as they squeaked out a 4-3 win inside the American Bank Center.

The Tornado took the lead just 2:49 into the game off the stick of Brandon Platt.  Jordan Paine hit Platt with a backdoor pass to take a 1-0 lead.

Louie Rowe put Texas ahead 2-0 receiving a pass from CJ Reuschlein in front of the net beating Ben Myers at 13:00 of the first period.

Just 2:36 later, Nick Blasé floated a shot from the point that found a way to the net and through Myers for a three goal lead after one period.

The comeback started courtesy of Andrew Paras to start the middle period.  Perry D’Arrisso fed Paras with a pass at the top of the right wing circle and the defenseman walked in and buried his first as an IceRay at 2:26 of the second pulling Corpus Christi within two goals.

Beau Walker created the second goal for the IceRays as he and Mike Economos crisscrossed at the blue-line confusing the Texas defense.  Economos then tapped in a pass from Walker behind goaltender Hunter Leisner getting the crowd back into the game and pulling the Rays’ a goal away from tying the game.

That tying goal came just 39 seconds later on a scramble in front of Leisner.  Rudy Sulmonte picked up the loose puck and went top shelf to tie the game at three goals aside.

However, in the third period Jackson Leef recorded the game winner on a similar goal with a jam in front of the net of Ben Myers at 14:45 of the final frame.

Corpus Christi held Texas to just 20 shots in the game and Ben Myers stopped 16 of them.  Hunter Leisner turned away 23 of the 26 IceRays shots.
