CORPUS CHRISTI ENDS LOSING STREAK WITH 3-1 WIN OVER BRAHMAS

Nov 21, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Jake Durflinger tied the game in the second period, and assisted the game winner on Friday night as the Corpus Christi IceRays ended a seven game losing streak with a 3-1 comeback victory over the Lone Star Brahmas at American Bank Center.

The only goal of the opening period was a great individual effort by Matt Lison.  After battling in the corner, he pulled the puck from the scrum and walked to the front of the net going around a diving Ben Myers slipping the puck by his left leg pad with only 2:31 left in the first frame.  The only assist went to Liam Stirtzinger and the goal gave Lone Star a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.  Corpus Christi only totaled four shots in the first 20min.

The ‘Rays tied the game at a goal a piece with the only strike of the second period.  Jake Durflinger went hard to the net and waited in the slot as players battled for the puck in a scrum.  It popped right out and onto his stick and Durflinger beat TJ Black to tie the game at 7:50 of the second period with assists coming from Maurin Bouvet and Lucas Bennett.

The teams were all knotted up heading into the third and it only lasted 4:54 when Jake Durflinger picked up a great assist, finding a wide open Maurin Bouvet going to the net, hitting him with a pass and Bouvet one-timed it between the legs of TJ Black for the 2-1 go-ahead goal and eventual game winner also assisted by Jesse Shelton.

Corpus Christi added to the lead just over midway through the third period.  With a big scrum in front of the net and the puck loose, Lucas Bennett found it and poked it into the net past the left leg pad of Black for his second point of the game and 11th on the year for a 3-1 advantage with assists credited to Nick Felan and Luke McDiarmid.

Ben Myers picked up his 4th win of the year stopping 22 of 23 shots on net.
