Corpus Christi IceRays Blanked By Brahmas

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays fell short of their goal of gaining some much-needed points against the top team in the NAHL South Division heading into the holiday break.

The IceRays were shut out by the Lone Star Brahmas 3-0 Saturday night at the NYTEX Sports Center.

It’s the fourth time the IceRays have been shut out this season, and second time against the Brahmas.

The IceRays are 0-4-0, 1SOL against the Brahmas this season.

Corpus Christi has lost five straight, including its last four games on the road.

“I’m disappointed in our group the last four games,” IceRays head coach Sylvain Cloutier said.

Ivan Zadvernyuk scored a pair of goals for Lone Star, while David Skuhrovec netted one.

The IceRays remain in eighth place in the NAHL South Division at 9-18-1, 2 SOL for 21 points.

Lone Star increased its lead atop the South Division at 24-6-1, 2SOL for an NAHL-best 51 points.

The Brahmas outshot the IceRays 40-21, including 13-4 in the first period, and 16-8 in the third.

Both teams shot blanks on the power play as Corpus Christi was 0-for-4, and Lone Star was 0-for-3.

Neither team could get the puck into the net in the first period, and it was scoreless after one.

Skuhrovec scored his first goal of the season at 7:16 of the second period to get Lone Star on the board.

Zadvernyuk scored his ninth of the year at 11:14 of the second and the Brahmas led 2-0 heading into the final period.

Zadvernyuk closed out the scoring with his second of the night and tenth of the season at 15:49 of the third period.

The IceRays will enjoy the holiday break before getting back on the ice with a pair of home games against the Odessa Jackalopes Friday, December 29 and Saturday, December 30 at 7:05 p.m. at the American Bank Center.

“The Break is needed, and we need to get back on track at home,” Cloutier said.
