Corpus Christi, Texas – After bouncing back to win the second game of the weekend against the Shreveport Mudbugs, all eyes were on Sunday’s final game of the series.
Unfortunately for the Corpus Chrisi IceRays, the third time wasn’t the charm.
The IceRays gave up three goals in the first two periods and couldn’t produce an answer in a 3-0 loss to Shreveport Sunday afternoon at the American Bank Center.
It’s the second time this season the IceRays have been shut out.
Kyan Haldenby scored a pair of goals and Nick Marino added another as the Mudbugs took two of the three games at the ABC.
Corpus Christi is now 9-14-1, 2 SOL for 21 points and still sitting in eighth place in the NAHL South Division, four points ahead of Colorado.
Shreveport is alone in second place in the South at 16-7-0 2 SOL for 34 points, three points in front of El Paso.
The Mudbugs created the tempo and pressure in the early going, outshooting the IceRays 31-17 (11-4 in the first, 12-7 in the second, and 8-6 in the third).
“It was a disappointing game for sure,” IceRays head coach Sylvain Cloutier said. “We didn’t create anything, and you’ve got to give them credit.”
Neither team could capitalize on the power play as Shreveport was 0-3 and Corpus Christi 0-2.
“Our power play was terrible. I’m not even sure if we got a shot on net,” Cloutier said. “be our focus this week.”
Haldenby got things going for Shreveport with his ninth goal of the season unassisted at 8:40.
He collected his second of the game and tenth of the season, also at 4:02 of the second period to give the Mudbugs a 2-0 advantage.
Haldenby scored a goal in each of the three games and finished the series with four goals and an assist.
Marino notched his ninth tally of the season at 9:36 to finish the three games with a goal and two assists.
The IceRays will take on the Odessa Jackalopes Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9 at 7:05 p.m. CST in Odessa.
