Corpus Christi IceRays Comeback Falls Short 6-5

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays comeback falls short at the American Bank Center on Saturday, October 1st against the New Mexico Ice Wolves resulting in a score of 5-6.

Game Action

The New Mexico Ice Wolves opened up a 3-0 1st period lead as they held off a furious comeback effort by Corpus Christi as they won 6-5 to split the 2 game series.

William Howard and Tyler Samodral each scored a pair of goals to lead the Ice Wolves. They now own a 6-1-1 record for 13 points in the standings while Corpus Christi fell to 2-5-1 on the season.

After falling behind in the first period, the IceRays cut the lead in the second period to 3-2 but Howard’s goal at the 17:38 mark increased the New Mexico lead to 4-2 after 2 periods.

In the third period the Ice Wolves raced to a 6-3 lead before a pair of IceRay goals by Cameron Crolley and Tomas Trunda got Corpus Christi to within one goal at 6-5 with just over a minute to play in regulation but that is the way it ended.

Each team was assessed 3 penalties for 6 minutes each with each team scoring a power play goal.
