Corpus Christi IceRays Fall To Host Shreveport Friday Night

Corpus Christi, Texas – It was a tough night all the way around for the Corpus Christi IceRays.

The IceRays fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a 10-1 loss to the Shreveport Mudbugs Friday night at the Georges Pond Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Braydon Cook collected a hat trick with three for Shreveport. Ryan Burke and Colin Vassallo each scored a pair of goals while Maksim Sushchynski, Kyan Haldenby and Hayden Nichol each added a goal.

Griffin Zaske got the goal for the IceRays.

“We were outplayed. Pretty simple,” IceRays Head Coach Sylvain Cloutier said.

Shreveport outshot the IceRays 35-23 and were 2-for-6 on the power play compared to 0-for-4 for Corpus Christi on the power play.

The Mudbugs are 9-2-0, 1SOL against Corpus Christi with four-straight straight win over the IceRays, while the Corpus Christi is 3-8-1, 1SOL in 12 games this season after going 0-8 a year ago.

Corpus Christi is now 2-6-0, 0SOL in its last seven contests and 5-8-0, 1SOL in its last 14 games.

Overall, the IceRays are now 14-26-1, 3SOL for 32 points, in eighth place in the NAHL South Division, 10 points behind the Odessa Jackalopes for seventh, and 19 points behind the Oklahoma Warriors for sixth.

Shreveport is in second place in points with a record of 32-11-0, 2SOL for 66 points, five points ahead of the El Paso Rhinos, and six points behind the division-leading Lone Star Brahmas.

“With all the new additions, we’ve started over,” Cloutier said. “We have a young team now so it will take time.”

The IceRays and Mudbugs will conclude the series Saturday night in Shreveport at 7:11 p.m. CST.
