Corpus Christi IceRays Fall To Lone Star In Shootout Wednesday Night

Nov 23, 2023

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays played for over 60 minutes with fire and intensity on the road against the top team in the NAHL South Division.

Although a victory wasn’t in the cards, getting a point on the road is always the goal.

The IceRays fell to the Lone Star Brahmas 3-2 in a shootout Wednesday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills.

Tyler Samodral and Will Reardon scored goals for Corpus Christi during regulation time.

Matyas Borak and Jacob McDonald had goals for Lone Star.

Stepan Kuznetsov scored the IceRays goal in the shootout, while Lone Star collected a pair of goals.

With the point, the IceRays are now 7-11-1, 2 SOL for 17 points and in eighth place in the NAHL South Division.

Lone Star continues to lead the South Division at 17-6-0, 2 SOL for 36 points, five points in front of the New Mexico Ice Wolves.

The IceRays collected their first point against the Brahmas this season and are 0-2-0, 1 SOL this season.

“It’s a great point on the road,” IceRays head coach Sylvain Cloutier said.

And the point the team earned would not have been possible without the play of goaltender Bryant Marks.

Marks, who was named honorable mention NAHL South Star of the week, made 27 saves out of 29 shots.

“Marks played a great game tonight,” Cloutier said.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first period.

Borak scored his ninth goal of the season at 5:55 of the second period to get Lone Star on the board.

Samodral netted his first goal of the season at 8:08 and the game was tied at 1-1 after two periods.
Lone Star re-captured the lead on McDonald’s sixth goal of the season at 13:32 of the third period.

But Reardon answered with his sixth of the year at 15:01 to tie the game at 2-2.

The two teams were scoreless in overtime to set up the shootout.

Following Thanksgiving Day, the IceRays will play a pair against the Colorado Grit Friday night at 8:15 CST and Saturday afternoon at 4:45 CST.
