Corpus Christi IceRays Fall To New Mexico In A Shootout Friday At American Bank Center

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the New Mexico Ice Wolves in a hard-fought battle in a shootout, 4-3 Friday night at the American Bank Center.

The IceRays managed a point on the night and are 2-1-0, 1 SOL in their last four games, while the Ice Wolve came away with the road win and two points.

The game was so close that the shootout went five rounds with New Mexico earning a 2-1 advantage.

Brady Borgestad and Zach Boren scored the goals in the shootout for New Mexico while Pierson Sobush got the goal for the IceRays.

Gage Parillo, Griffin Zaske and Anthony Cafarelli scored for Corpus Christi in regulation.

Graham Harris, Ryan Seelinger and Yusaku Ando scored goals for New Mexico.

“It’ was a heartbreaking loss in the shootout,” Ice Rays head coach Sylvain Cloutier said. “The sun comes up tomorrow and we need to get back to work.”

The IceRays are 12-19-1, 3 SOL for 28 points for eighth place in the NAHL South Division, four points behind the Odessa Jackalopes.

New Mexico is tied for fifth with the Oklahoma Warriors at 17-15-2, 1 SOL for 37 points.

Corpus Christi outshot New Mexico 43-36 on the night.

Both teams came up empty on the power play with the IceRays 0-for-2 and New Mexico 0-for-1.

Harris got New Mexico on the board with his 10th goal 43 seconds in.

Parillo scored his third goal of the season at 5:48 from Cater Krenke and Dylan Jensen.

Seelinger notched his 11th of the season at 15:06 and the Ice Wolves led 2-1 after one period.

Zaske collected his first of the second from Jensen at 12:56 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2.

Cafarelli netted his team-leading 14th goal from Jensen and Sobush at 13:29 and the IceRays had a 3-2 advantage after two periods.

Ando scored his 12th goal of the season at 12:17 of the third to send the game to overtime.

The IceRays and Ice Wolves will go at it again Saturday night at 7:05 at the ABC.

Saturday night will feature the IceRays second-annual Taylor Swift “Are You Ready For It? Theme night.
