Corpus Christi IceRays Fall To Oklahoma Saturday Night In Oklahoma City

Corpus Christi, Texas – Winning on the road is always tough. Winning four straight games on the road was something the Corpus Christi IceRays were trying to accomplish,

Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as the IceRays saw their three-game road winning streak come to an end in a 4-1 loss at the hands of the host Oklahoma Warriors Saturday night at the Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City.

The Warriors were the aggressors throughout, outshooting the IceRays 50-23.

IceRays netminder Bryant Marks 46 saves in the loss.

Max Dronen scored a pair of goals for Oklahoma, while Drew Sutton and Sebastian Speck added a goal apiece.

Will Reardon scored the goal for the IceRays.

Corpus Christi has now won three of its last four games and is 5-7-0, 0SOL in its last 12 games, 6-12-0, 0SOL in its last 18 contests and 10-15-0, 1SOL in its last 26 games.

Overall, the IceRays are 19-32-2, 3SOL for 43 points, in eighth place in the NAHL South Division, six points behind the Odessa Jackalopes for seventh, and 16 points behind the Warriors for sixth.

Oklahoma is 27-22-5, 2SOL for 58 points and in sixth place in the NAHL South, five points behind the New Mexico Ice Wolves and seven points behind the Amarillo Wranglers.

Neither team could score a goal in the first period as Oklahoma outshot Corpus Christi 16-5.

Dronen got Oklahoma on the board with his 11th goal of the season at 11:37 of the second period.

He would get his second of the game at 18:40 and Oklahoma led 2-0 after two periods.

Sutton scored his 19th of the season on the power play at 5:17 of the third period and Speck got his third of the year at 9:52.

Reardon netted his tenth of the year with a power-play goal from Wolfgang Govedaris and Zach Homer at 12:06 of the third period to close out the scoring.

The IceRays were 1-for-4 on the power play while Oklahoma was 1-for-7.

“The better team won,” IceRays Head Coach Sylvain Cloutier said. “On to the next one.”

The IceRays will once again be on the road for the next ones against the New Mexico Ice Wolves Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at 8:30 p.m. CDT at the Outpost Ice Arenas.
