Corpus Christi IceRays rally but fall short to the Wisconsin Windigo in their third game in NAHL Showcase

Blaine, Minnesota – The Corpus Christi IceRays game ended with a score of 0-5 in a loss against the Wisconsin Windigo was played Friday, September 16th morning at 11am  at the Schwan Super Rink.

First Period Action

IceRays started the game with goaltender #35 Thomas Kiesewetter who faced 15 shots, while #1 Gavin Moffatt faced 9 shots.

The Windigo scored first, early in the period at the :55 second mark with a short-handed goal by #10 Samuel Jacobs and was assisted by #12 Chris Kernan. Five minutes later at the 5:57 mark, #4 Zachary Cline puts one in the net on a power play. Cline was assisted by #10 Samuel Jacobs and #11 Connor Mahony.

The IceRays get on the board late in the period at the 17:22 mark as #16 Stepan Kuznetsov puts one in the lower right corner of the net. Kuznetsov was assisted by #11 Connor Mahony.

Penalties in the first period was a 2min Holding minor infraction by #6 Cole Mickel of the Windigo at the :37 second mark. The IceRays #8 Oleksii Dakhnovskyi takes a Tripping 2min minor penalty at 4:21 in the period. At 14:55, #14 Jonathan Bell takes Boarding minor penalty and serves 2min putting the IceRays on the penalty kill in which the Windigo were not able to capitalize.

Second Period Action

The second period started with some great passing plays by the IceRays with a feed up the middle to the IceRay a quick breakaway chance but fell short.

First penalty of the period went to the Windigo’s #17 Tyler Grahme for Tripping and serving a 2min minor at the 8:06 mark.

The Windigo put their 3rd goal of the game on the board at 11:43 and scored by #19 Patrick Isiguzo while assisted by #9 Cameron Boche and #12 Chris Kernan.

Shortly after at the 15:14 mark, IceRay’s #19 Michael Casey takes a 2 min High Sticking minor penalty. Soon after IceRay’s #22 Dylan Contreras and the Windigo’s #26 Axel Begley Roughing-Minor 2 min both get a Roughing minor 2 min infraction.

IceRays managed 10 shots on goal, while goaltender #35 Thomas Kiesewetter faced 12 shots by the Windigo.

Third Period Action

The IceRays come out to a quick start and get on the scoreboard early at :51 seconds into the third. The non-assisted goal was scored by #16 Stepan Kuznetsov was is his second of the game.

The IceRays continued with hard played solid defense but at 6:58 in the period #4 Dominic Foglia got called for Hooking 2 min minor penalty putting his team on the penalty kill but IceRays successfully managed to get back to full strength. Unfortunately at 11:14, the IceRays went back on the penalty kill as #16 Stepan Kuznetsov gets a 2 min minor for Slashing, but the IceRays come out strong once again a kill the penalty.

The IceRays pulled Kiesewetter out of the net with :56 seconds left to get an extra man advantage but fell short.

The Corpus Christi IceRays managed 11 shots on goal, while the Windigo shot 13 times on goalie #35 Thomas Kiesewetter and the IceRays strong defensive effort.

Full Game Statistics

The Corpus Christi IceRays finish the game with a  final score of Corpus Christi IceRays 2 and Wisconsin Windigo 3.

Goaltender Thomas Kiesewetter faced a total of 40 shots on goal while the IceRays total shots on Goal was 30. Total IceRays penalty minutes was 8 minutes while the Windigo had 10 total penalty minutes.

The IceRays next game is tomorrow, Saturday, September 17, 2022. Puck drops at 12:15 PM CDT against the Johnstown Tomahawks.
