Mar 3, 2011

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Corpus Christi IceRays General Manager Pat Dunn along with Head Coach Brent Hughes and Assistant Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Justin Quenneville announced today that the team has signed three players to tenders for the 2011-12 NAHL season.  They are defensemen Matt Wurst and Chris Taff along with forward Joe Ginley.  The team still has six slots available for future signings.

The signed tenders will be added to a 30-man protected list comprised of current Corpus Christi eligible holdovers and future 2011 NAHL draft selections.  The combined total of protected holdovers and tenders will determine how many draft picks the team will have in the upcoming 2011 NAHL draft this summer.

Ginley, 18, is from Fairbanks, AK and plays for the California Titans 18U team in the North American Prospects Hockey League.  The 5’10, 160 lb. forward played three games for Corpus Christi this season against Topeka as one of the IceRays’ affiliate players for the 2010-11 season.

Wurst, 18, is a Sylvania, OH native who currently plays for the Honeybaked U18 Major program based out of Detroit, MI.  This season, the 6’0, 210 lb. defenseman tallied five goals and 13 assists for 18 points in 40 games.  He is from the same hometown as current IceRays defenseman Mychal Monteith

Taff, 16, hails from Omaha, NE where he plays for the Omaha AAA Lancers U16 club in the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL).  The 6’0, 155 lb. defenseman scored two goals and had eight assists for 10 points in 15 regular-season games for the Lancers this season.  It is the same program that has produced current IceRays, Seth Blair and Josh Obregon.

In accordance with North American Hockey League’s agreement, the Corpus Christi IceRays have now used two tenders on North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) players which are the minimum for NAHL teams.

The IceRays begin a four-game homestand on Sunday, March 6th at 3:05 PM when they host the Amarillo Bulls at the American Bank Center. Fans can catch the pre-game show on the flagship home of the IceRays, News/Talk 1440 KEYS, www.1440KEYS.com, with the voice of the IceRays, Ryan Holt, beginning at 2:50 PM.  The game will be available online through the league’s pay-per-view website, www.fasthockey.com.  For more information call the Rays’ front office at 361.814.PUCK (7825) or crash the net at www.goicerays.com.
