FORMER NETMINDER STOLARZ ADDED TO USA JUNIOR CAMP

Jun 13, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Former Corpus Christi IceRays goaltender and Philadelphia Flyers prospect Anthony Stolarz has been invited to the National Junior Hockey Camp for the United States that takes place August 3rd – 10th in Lake Placid, NY.

Thatcher Demko, Jon Gilles, and Collin Olson were also named as the other goaltenders who will all be battling for spots on the National Junior Team that will compete in the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship from December 26th until January 5th.

“It's an honor to be named one of the four goalies who will represent our country in Lake Placid and possibly have the opportunity to play for Team USA in Sweden,” said Stolarz, who led the London Knights to the Memorial Cup this past year.

This will be the second straight appearance for Stolarz at the evaluation camp after being invited last year as well following his only season with the IceRays.

In the 2011-2012 season, the New Jersey native posted a .920 save percentage along with a 2.84 goals against average in 50 games played in Corpus Christi.

Following the season, Stolarz was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers during the second round of the 2012 National Hockey League draft in Pittsburgh, PA.

After appearing in eight games with the University of Nebraska-Omaha, the netminder landed with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League where he was seen in 20 regular games helping London to the OHL Championship that advanced them to the 2013 Memorial Cup.

With the Knights, Stolarz maintained a 2.29 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.

During his one year in the North American Hockey League with the IceRays, Stolarz was selected to the 2012 Top Prospects Tournament while also being named to the NAHL Stars of the Week.

“I want to thank the IceRays for the opportunity I was given to showcase my talents two years ago,” Stolarz added.  “It was because of them I was able to be seen by the coaches at USA Hockey and get my name out there for this team last year and even though I did not make it, it gave me some experience playing against international competition and I will use that to attempt to make the team this year.”

The Evaluation Camp, that is held at Lake Placid's Olympic Center will include practices along with international games against Finland, Sweden, and Canada.
