Game Tonight! IceRays take on the Rhinos after falling 3-2 in Home Opener

Corpus Christi, Texas – The IceRays next game is tonight! Saturday, September 24th, 2022. Puck drops at 7:05 PM CDT against the El Paso Rhinos.

Friday Night Game Recap

The Corpus Christi IceRays lost their first home game of the season at the American Bank Center versus the El Paso Rhinos resulting in a score of 3-2 on Friday, September 23rd, 2022.

First Period Action

Starting in goal was #77 Stefan Carney for the Corpus Christi IceRays and #1 Hunter Garvey for the El Paso Rhinos. Carney faced 4 shots on net while Garvey faced more than triple the amount at 13.

The IceRays came out hot and scored twice in the first period. First goal was scored by #20 Oliver Stumpel and assisted by #19 Michael Casey and #94 Tomas Trunda.

There was a total of 6 minutes in penalties. At 2:24 mark the Rhinos #20 Mike Marquez received a 2 minute minor for slashing, and soon, at the 6:04 mark, the IceRyas #4 Dominic Foglia takes a 2 minute High Sticking penalty for the IceRays. The Rhinos go back on the penalty kill at 18:26 with #8 AJ Reed serving time in the box for 2 minutes for a Kneeing minor penalty.

Second Period Action

The Rhinos scored two unanswered goals in the second period. The first goal at 9:21 and was scored by #16 Tristan Kimmen and assisted by #6 Jacob Zwirecki and #7 Nick Justice. Just over two minutes later, the second goal was scored by #10 Donovan O’Neil and assisted by #8 AJ Reed and #29 Bo Cosman.

IceRays only took one penalty in the second period for Hooking as #25 Nicholas Zocco serves a 2 minute minor.

The Corpus Christi IceRays were out-shot by the El Paso Rhinos with only 4 shots on goal while Rhinos had 14 shots on Carney.

Third Period Action

Rhinos’ #6 Jacobb Zwireck scores a goal at 3:44 in the third period, and was assisted by #21 Luke Morris and #28 Zey Podolski.

#29 Bo Cosman took a 2 minute minor for Tripping for the Rhinos while the IceRays #20 Oliver Stumpel puts the IceRays in a late penalty kill situation.  Carney was pulled late in the third period to try and help the IceRays with an extra skater to attempt to tie the game but the IceRays could not capitalize on the opportunity.

The goaltenders faced a total of 14 shots on goal, #1 Stefan Carney saw 6 of those.

The final score resulted with the Corpus Christi IceRays 2 and the El Paso Rhinos 3.
