HAWKINS’ HAT-TRICK PROPELS TEXAS OVER THE RAYS’ 6-1

Dec 27, 2012

FRISCO, TX – AJ Jarosz put the IceRays up 1-0 after one period, but it was the only scoring that Corpus Christi would get as the Texas Tornado scored the next six goals, including four in the second, providing a 6-1 victory on Friday night inside the Dr Pepper Arena.

After the IceRays had a goal called back on a hand pass, AJ Jarosz converted at 17:38 of the opening period on an assist from Andrew Paras to put Corpus Christi ahead 1-0 through 20min of action.

The lead didn’t last long in the second frame as Jason Eddy put home a loose puck just 7sec after the puck dropped to tie the game at one goal a piece.

The defending National Champions took the lead at 3:52 of the second as Brandon Platt picked up his third goal of the year in just ten games with the Tornado for a 2-1 lead and Texas never looked back.

Brandon Hawkins scored his first goal of the night on a nice back-hander he sent by goaltender Hayden Stewart at 13:47 of period two with the lone assist to Scott Conway who hit Hawkins with the breakout pass.

The leading scorer struck again as Andrew Paras sat in the box with 3:39 left in the second.  Hawkins took a pass below the left wing circle and fired it by a sprawling Hayden Stewart to move the Texas lead to three goals.

In the final period the Tornado would strike twice.  First, Andrew Mayer at 10:10 of the third, and then Hawkins picked up the hat-trick with 7:40 left in the game to put Texas up 6-1, which ended up the final score in front of 2,324 fans.

Stewart stopped 24 of 30 in the loss
