HOME OPENER THIS WEEKEND AT AMERICAN BANK CENTER

Sep 30, 2015

The Corpus Christi IceRays open the 2015-16 home schedule this Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:05 p.m. from the American Bank Center against the Amarillo Bulls. The weekend marks the end of the team’s season-opening road trip and the first two games in October.

On Friday, the IceRays are celebrating the best businesses and attractions that Corpus Christi has to offer with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times Best of the Best Showcase. The organization will recognize the best businesses in the Coastal Bend area as recognized by the city’s leading newspaper. The first one thousand fans will receive a free 2015-16 Corpus Christi IceRays magnet schedule, courtesy of Janet’s Cakery. In addition, the home season opens on a Frosty Friday, with one-dollar beer and soda on tap throughout the evening.

Saturday evening marks an emotional night for both the IceRays and the Corpus Christi community with the 2nd Annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Night. Prior to the 2015 Off-Season, the IceRays planned on bringing back the event to the home opening weekend after the bond and successful of the inaugural theme night. Following the passing of the inspiration for the event, Brooke Hester, the mood of the event shifted to a remembrance and celebration of the life and legacy of Brooke through her battle with Stage IV Neuroblastoma.

During the game, blossoms made by the IceRays and the Corpus Christi community will be sold to fans individually, and a silent auction with an assortment of items will run until the final horn. Proceeds from the evening’s events benefit the Brooke’s Blossoming Hope for Childhood Cancer Foundation. Saturday is also a Caller-Times Family Four-Pack Night. Fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas for just $46.

The IceRays (2-4-0) and Bulls (1-4-1) have started the 2015-16 season slowly, however the weekend tilt allows both sides to make a push upward in the South Division and climb back into the top-four in the first weekend of October. Last season, the IceRays earned a 21-7-0 record, their best as a junior franchise, in games at the American Bank Center, including a 3-1-0 record against Amarillo. This is the first of 12 meetings this season and is only the third time in six years that the two opponents will share a 12-game schedule. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. with Countdown to Faceoff on SportsJuice.com, FASTHockey.com, and 87.7 FM in-arena.
