Albuquerque (Jan. 14, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays fall to the Ice Wolves 3-1 at Outpost Ice Arenas on Saturday, January 14th, 2023.
The IceRays dropped the second game of the back to back with the New Mexico Ice Wolves after coming away victorious in the weekend opener. The game had nearly an identical start with the IceRays opening the scoring at the 5:32 mark of the first period, thanks to Jackson Beach’s third goal of the year.
The Ice Wolves were once again quick to answer as Sully Scholle notched his 16th of the year on the power play at the 7:06 mark of the first.
The IceRays were assessed another penalty at the beginning of the second period and it was Ryan Johnson of the Ice Wolves who capitalized for his 10th goal of the season. Sully Scholle would find the back of the net once more later on in the second period to give the Ice Wolves a 3-1 lead which stood to be the final score.
Penalties were the story in this one, as the IceRays uncharacteristically logged 41 penalty minutes over the course of the game and surrendered two power play goals. The IceRays were scoreless on just one power play opportunity.
The IceRays only managed to throw 20 pucks on ice Wolves’ netminder, William Craig, who turned aside 19 of those. Patrik Jurcak stopped 40 out of 43 shots in his debut for the IceRays.
