CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays have acquired forward Griff Jeszka from the Coulee Region Chill of the North American Hockey League in exchange for a first round pick in the 2015 NAHL Draft. Jeszka will wear number 10 and appear in this week’s games against the Wichita Falls Wildcats.
Jeszka, 19, appeared in nine games this season with the Coulee Region Chill, recording three assists with ten penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus. The six-foot-one, 175-pound forward also appeared in 47 games last season with the Chill, recording eight goals and ten assists for 18 points with only 12 penalty minutes.
“Griff fills a major hole we have in our lineup,” said IceRays Head Coach John Becanic. “We had a need at center with Jack [Jenson] out of the lineup and prior to that. It gives us a little bit more size in the middle of the ice as well.”
One of the biggest strengths for the Muskego, Wis. native is his presence in the faceoff circle. On Saturday against the Janesville Jets, Jeszka won 11 of the 12 faceoffs he took for the Chill. He also comes in to Corpus Christi with a two-game assist streak, recording a helper in each of his last two games against the Jets. In addition, Jeszka likes to play both ends of the ice and create plays wherever possible.
“Corpus Christi is a great organization,” said Jeszka, “As soon as I found out I was coming down, I looked forward to seeing what it’s all about, and I really like it so far. I love the weather, and it’s really good to be here. It’s a big transition from living in Wisconsin my whole life where it’s really cold.”
The IceRays return to the American Bank Center on Thursday, October 30 at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Falls Wildcats.
