The IceRays have acquired forward Grayson Gavin from the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in exchange for a tender and a conditional draft pick.

“We are extremely happy on adding a veteran player like Grayson,” IceRays head coach Brad Flynn said. “We were looking for someone to help us and Grayson is multidimensional, he is a proven point producer in our league, has good size, plays up the middle, played a key role on a successful power play in Fairbanks and most importantly comes from a winning culture that we hope will pay dividends on our playoff push.”

Gavin (20) has been in the NAHL since the 2015-16 season, when he played for the Minot Minotauros and a highly renowned head coach in Marty Murray. He was traded to Fairbanks early last season, and scored 23 points (13 G, 10 A) in 38 games playing for the defending NAHL champions.

The 6’2, 205 pound Mankato, MN native has unfortunately been pestered by injuries this season, limiting him to only 11 games played. However, he’s been healthy all throughout January and February and played against his former team just last weekend, helping Fairbanks sweep Minot on the road. In 2018, the Ice Dogs are 11-0-0 in games played with Gavin in the lineup.

“Grayson suffered an injury early in the season that kept him out for a while but he is healthy now and ready to go,” Flynn said. “When I get phone calls from high character warriors who have played here and know our culture–like Cole Filler calling me up to let me know we are getting a good player and a great guy–that is a huge bonus and gives us information that we can’t see on video.”

The IceRays return to action this Thursday and Friday to host the Lone Star Brahmas at the American Bank Center. Puck drops at 7:05 pm CT both nights. Thursday is Fan Appreciation Night; all tickets and post-game skate rentals will be just $2 each. The IceRays have also partnered with Whataburger to host a public skate at the American Bank Center tonight from 6-8:30. Rentals are $10 and the proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Bend. All participants will be granted a free Whataburger coupon.
