IceRays Add Key Asset To Coaching Staff In Phil Oberlin

Dec 29, 2022

Corpus Christi, TX (Dec. 27, 2022) – “We needed to find someone that can help out and a guy that you can trust and rely on, and Phil is that guy… it’s going to be nice to have him as someone with a lot of experience in the coaching world.”

Those were the words of IceRays’ Head Coach Sylvain Cloutier regarding the addition of Phil Oberlin to the coaching staff. Oberlin was previously a part of the Austin Ice Bats organization of the NA3HL where he served as the team’s first Head Coach and GM. Phil joins his brother Patrick who currently serves as the IceRays’ Equipment Manager.

When asked about stepping into the new role, Oberlin commented, “I’m thankful for Mr. Lange, Coach Cloutier, and the whole IceRays organization for giving me this opportunity. It’s a hockey program with a long and storied history, both in the NAHL and professional ranks, and I’m excited to be able to be a part of it.

Oberlin arrives in Corpus Christi a few days after the holiday break, just ahead of the team’s two-game set against Shreveport. He added, “I am hoping to bring some energy, a positive attitude, and whatever I can bring to make the team successful.” Oberlin will play a key role in helping the IceRays start the second half of the season on the right note and claw their way back into the playoff race.
