ICERAYS AND D.A.R.S TEAM UP FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON

Apr 1, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays were pleased to present the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services – Division for Blind Services (D.A.R.S) with a check for $7,000 at the American Bank Center from this past weekend’s festivities for “Pack The House” night against the Odessa Jackalopes.

Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services – Division for Blind Services was searching for community partners to assist with sponsoring 300 children who are blind and visually impaired to experience a totally accessible amusement park, Morgan's Wonderland. The Corpus Christi IceRays family answered the call and collected thousands of dollars to assist these families.

“Once again we paired up with D.A.R.S for another successful season of learning,” said IceRays general manager Pat Dunn.  “Working with the kids, teaching them to skate weekly, and having D.A.R.S attend our games was a win for everyone.”

These families will spend the weekend of June 13 – 16, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas, at Morgan's Wonderland.  They will have the opportunity to network with one another and  develop strategies to help other children succeed.

The Corpus Christi IceRays partnered with the Division for Blind Services this past year teaching twelve of these young children how to skate.  The IceRays family hosted these young children as honorary team members on January 5th.

“The Corpus Christi IceRays Organization has been a tremendous community partner helping to provide access to community sports and entertainment to persons with disabilities,” said Larry Eliot with D.A.R.S.  “The organization under the leadership of Pat Dunn clearly demonstrates its belief that persons with disabilities can achieve any goal with the right supports and confidence.  The Division for Blind Services and the community of Corpus Christi as a whole is truly lucky to have such a wonderful organization as part of its community character.”

The IceRays are on the road this weekend for round one of the 2013 NAHL Playoffs as they take on the Amarillo Bulls for games one and two.  Puck drops at 7:00PM both nights, coverage begins at 6:45PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on 91.1FM KSGR, ksgr.org, ustream.com, and fasthockey.com.
