Corpus Christi, TX (March 4, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays were shutout by the Shreveport Mudbugs 3-0 at the American Bank Center on Saturday, March 4th, 2023.
Game Action
The trend of surrendering early goals resurfaced tonight for the IceRays as Mudbugs forward Nick Marino tallied just 58 seconds into the game for his third goal of the weekend series. Lukas Malant helped keep the score 1-0 with several big stops after the opening goal and the IceRays eventually found their skating legs later in the period. They got an opportunity on the power play late in the period but were unable to capitalize.
The Mudbugs came out strong once again to start the second stanza but Lukas Malant stood tall in between the pipes. The IceRays picked up their stride later in the period and were again awarded a late power play, this time a double minor called on Shreveport’s Eric Vitale but the IceRays were unable to cash in on the four-minute man advantage.
The IceRays unfortunately spent a lot of time in the box in the third period and the Mudbugs were able to capitalize on goals from Nik Miller at 9:31 and then Alex Park at 19:51. In between those goals was a stretch of feisty play that we hadn’t seen much of between these two teams prior to tonight. It was another tight game that resulted in a 3-0 win for the Mudbugs. The IceRays were 0-for-3 on the power play. Lukas Malant made a number of terrific saves, totaling 38 on the night.
