Mar 11, 2023

Oklahoma City, OK (March 11, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the Oklahoma Warriors 6-1 at Blazers Ice Centre on Saturday, March 11th, 2023.

Game Action

The IceRays were not able to weather the Warriors’ first period surge tonight as effectively as they did last night. Therien Thiesing opened the scoring for Oklahoma at the 8:04 mark of the period on a long wrister from the point that deflected on its way past Patrik Jurcak. About 90 seconds later, it was Brendan Williams who finished a back door feed from William Lawson-Body to put the Warriors up 2-0. To add insult to injury, Warriors forward William Ahlrik pounced on a rebound in the crease to make it a 3-0 game in favor of Oklahoma at the 11:01 mark.

Both teams spent a lot of time in the penalty box in the second period, combining for 28 total penalty minutes. The IceRays had a brief 5-on-3 powerplay early in the period but were unable to capitalize. When the Warriors got an opportunity of their own, it was Therien Thiesing who snapped one by Jurcak for his second of the game to put Oklahoma up 4-1 at the 7:33 mark of the period, snapping a five-game drought for them on the man advantage. Will Brenner padded the lead to make it 5-1 when he scored his first goal as a Warrior at the 13:37 mark of the second frame.

The final stanza was relatively calm, but things got chippy again late in the period. All told, the two teams combined for 80 penalty minutes in the game. Domenic Evtimov tapped home a rebound with just five seconds remaining in regulation to make it a 6-1 final. The IceRays were 0-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. Patrik Jurcak made 34 stops in the loss.
