ICERAYS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT GAME TO JACKALOPES 3-1

Oct 31, 2013

ODESSA, TX – Nick Monfils gave the IceRays a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal in the first period, however the Odessa Jackalopes tallied three straight, including two in the second period en route to their second 3-1 win in a row over the Corpus Christi IceRays inside the Ector County Coliseum on Friday night.

Corpus Christi had a great scoring change just before midway through the opening period off an odd-man rush.  Odessa took a penalty off that opportunity and the IceRays went on their second power play of the night.  The Jackalopes tried to push the puck up the wall and out of the zone but it was intercepted and that created a three-on-one offensive zone rush.  Tony Roisum from the left wing circle played the puck to the front of the net that got deflected by Nick Monfils and went behind Yoshihiro Kuroiwa for his first of the year 10:35 into the game to give the ‘Rays a 1-0 lead.

The Jackalopes turned the momentum in the second period, despite being outshot 20-13 through two periods.  They tied the game on a deflection off a shot from the left point taken by David Chavis.  On the shot by Chavis, Alex Alger got his stick in front of the puck and deflected it top shelf over the left shoulder of IceRays goaltender Ben Myers at 6:41 of the second period.

The go ahead goal for Odessa came at the 13:38 mark of the second period on an odd man rush.  Leo Lumm brought the puck down the left wing boards and centered a pass to Lukas Laub who fired a one-timer on net that Myers originally stopped.  The rebound went off a body in front of the crease and into the net for a 2-1 lead.

The back-breaking goal for Odessa came as Andrew McLean got the puck in the high slot and one-touched it right to an awaiting Leo Lumm for a tap-in goal and a 3-1 advantage at 14:44 of the final period.

Ben Myers stopped 18 of 21 shots in the loss.
