BLAINE, MINN. – The Corpus Christi IceRays (2-4-0) closed out their 2015 North American Hockey League Showcase schedule with a difficult 5-1 loss to the Minot Minotauros (3-1-2) on Saturday afternoon at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn. The IceRays finish with a 1-3-0 record at the NAHL Showcase and a 2-4-0 record in their 12-day road trip.

The Minotauros held possession for most of the first period and converted with their time in the offensive zone. At 10:03, forward Troy Degler redirected a point shot from defenseman Max Mettler to scoot ahead to a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later at 13:33, another Minot goal stretched across, this time on a rip from the far circle by forward Zack Bross, doubling the lead, 2-0.

After killing off a five-minute major penalty and halting scoring in the second period, play unraveled for the IceRays in the third period. Minotauros forward Johnny Walker slapped home two back door shots from the right circle at 5:07 and 16:31 to quadruple the Minot lead to 4-0. Just 26 second later at 16:57, Chase Springman ranged to the back end again and flipped home Minot’s fifth goal of the game to make it 5-0. After a scrum that sent off three combined players for misconducts, IceRays forward Adam Canepa tapped home his first of the season on a wide open net at 19:54 to take a away the shutout, but the result remained 5-1.

Minotauros goaltender Jon Flakne (2-0-1) earned the win, saving 22 of 23 shots, while IceRays netminder Dryden McKay (1-2-0) dropped to the loss, turning aside 25 of 30 shots.
