ICERAYS FALL BEHIND EARLY, LOSE 5-2

ODESSA, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays couldn’t overcome the Jackalopes persistent scoring losing their second game in a row to the Odessa Jackalopes by a final score of 5-2 inside the Ector County Coliseum.

Just as they did last night, the Jackalopes scored the first two goals of the game.  The first coming 2:02 into regulation on bad giveaway at the blue line that allowed Marcus Ortiz to score on a breakaway giving the Jackalopes a 1-0 lead. 

Ryan Atkinson, who was named first star of the game, scored the second goal one timer on a pass from Chad Hennum.  It was Atkinson’s third goal of the year.

The IceRays scored two unanswered goals of their own.  Parry DArrisso took a shot on an odd man rush from the left wing circle beating goaltender Justin Davis pulling the IceRays within a goal of tying the game.

Dmitry Ermakov tied the game at two less than three minutes later with assists from Danny Fetzer and Brandon Smith.  The goal was Ermakov’s first of the year.

The Jackalopes answered right back with two goals of their own as Sheldon Taylor and Chad Hennum each scored before the second period concluded giving the Jackalopes a 4-2 lead.

In the third period, Odessa scored the only goal of the period increasing their lead 5-2.  Andrew Palushaj was credited with the goal. 

Anthony Stolarz stopped 35 of 40 shots on net.  The Jackalopes outshot the IceRays 40-26.  This was the first game that the IceRays were outshot in a game all season.    

The IceRays return home next Friday and Saturday as they host the Amarillo Bulls.  Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on ESPN Radio 1440AM.
