Mar 10, 2023

Oklahoma City, OK (March 10, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays were defeated by the Oklahoma Warriors 4-2 at Blazers Ice Centre on Friday, March 10th, 2023.

Game Action

You couldn’t have asked for a better first period for the IceRays as they kicked off their seventh meeting of the season against the top-ranked Oklahoma Warriors. The Warriors held the shot advantage 17-9 through the first 20 minutes, but the IceRays had no shortage of chances combined with stingy defensive play and solid goaltending from Lukas Malant.

The Warriors struck quickly to begin the second stanza, with Rylan Brady notching his 20th of the year at the 1:03 mark to give Oklahoma the 1-0 lead. The Warriors continued to push the pace and it was Cole Teleki who found the back of the net off a nice setup for his fifth of the year at the 12:14 mark of the second. The IceRays found their stride and came close to pulling within one when Dylan Contreras rang one off the cross bar, but the Warriors would strike moments later when Drew Sutton made it 3-0 at 16:33 on his team-leading 21st of the year.

Lukas Malant helped keep the IceRays in the game to begin the third period, and at 6:33 into the final stanza, Simon Becar broke through for his first career NAHL goal to make it a 3-1 game. The teams continued to trade chances and the Warriors would go back up by a three-goal margin when Malte Hasselgren beat Malant short side on an odd-man rush to make it 4-1 for his third point of the night.

IceRays Captain Anthony Cafarelli capitalized on an Oklahoma defensive zone turnover for his team-leading 12th goal of the year to make it 4-2 with just over three minutes in regulation, but a late penalty called against the IceRays would stymie any momentum they had generated.

The IceRays were 0-for-2 on the powerplay this evening and killed off all four Oklahoma power plays. Lukas Malant was solid with 40 saves in the loss.
