Oct 22, 2022

The Corpus Christi IceRays dropped their sixth consecutive game on Saturday night with a 5-1 loss to the Oklahoma Warriors at the American Bank Center.

For the second time this weekend, the IceRays had trouble stopping the Warriors in the first and second periods. Oklahoma’s Malte Hasselgren scored twice in the first period and then picked up a hat trick with a goal 12:06 in the second period to give Oklahoma a 3-0 lead. The Warriors would score twice in the next five minutes with goals from Nick Comfort and Blaise Miller to give Oklahoma a 5-0 lead headed into the second intermission.

Corpus Christi scored the lone goal of the third period when Connor Brust picked up his first goal of the season, assisted by Hans Martin Ulvebne and Jackson Beach.

There was only one penalty on either team in the first two periods, as Oklahoma’s Owen Baumgartner was called for holding 19:44 into the first period. The Warriors killed off the penalty and both teams played penalty-free in the second period.

Tensions boiled over in the last period of the weekend, as Oklahoma was assessed 3 minor penalties and the IceRays were called for 13 penalty minutes, including a 5 minute major penalty on Jackson Beach for cross checking. After 2 minutes of 4-on-4 hockey, the IceRays killed off the remainder of the major penalty. The IceRays finished 4/4 on the penalty kill for the game.

The IceRays enter a bye week and then will go on the road to play the El Paso Rhinos on November 4th and 5th. They return home on November 11th to host the Amarillo Wranglers.
