Norwell, Massachusetts Native Earns NCAA Division 1 Opportunity at Ivy League Institution
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Corpus Christi IceRays are proud to announce that forward Andrew Waugh has committed to Brown University, an official member of the Ivy League, and NCAA Division I program competing in the ECAC Hockey Conference.
Waugh, a 20-year-old center from Norwell, Massachusetts, is currently in his first season with the IceRays. The right-shot forward joined Corpus Christi after spending time in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Québec Remparts and in the CCHL with the Navan Grads. He also spent three seasons at Belmont Hill School, where he recorded 58 points (32 goals, 26 assists) in 93 games.
Waugh’s commitment to Brown represents another significant milestone in his hockey career and provides him the opportunity to continue competing at the NCAA Division I level while pursuing an outstanding academic education.
“Brown was the perfect fit for me because it gives me the opportunity to pursue excellence, both academically and athletically,” Waugh said. “I’m super excited to compete at the highest level on the ice but also be surrounded by driven individuals in the classroom. I am super excited to get to work with their coaching staff in the coming years, to become the best player and person possible.”
IceRays head coach Nick Skerlick highlighted Waugh’s intelligence and all-around approach to the game.
“Andrew is a cerebral player with incredible IQ. His off-ice marks make him a clear choice for situations that require great intellect, all while moving and playing at a fierce pace,” Skerlick said. “We could not be more excited to work with an Ivy League student. The NAHL still has ECAC quality players, and we are happy Brown’s coaching staff recognizes that!”
Waugh credited the people who have supported him throughout his hockey journey for helping him reach this point.
“I’d like to thank all my coaches, teammates, and friends who have played key roles in my development as a hockey player,” Waugh said. “All the support means the world to me.”
Waugh currently wears No. 19 for the IceRays and has appeared in six games during the 2026-27 NAHL season, recording one assist.
The IceRays organization congratulates Andrew and his family on this tremendous accomplishment and looks forward to supporting him as he continues his development in Corpus Christi.
