Odessa, TX (March 17th, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays’ next game is tonight, Friday, March 17th, 2023 at Ector County Coliseum. Puck drops at 7:15 PM CDT against the Odessa Jackalopes.
Game Preview
The IceRays made the six and a half hour bus ride to Odessa last night, one of their shortest trips of the season, to square off against the Jackalopes on St. Patrick’s Day tonight. It will be meeting number seven between the clubs with the season series concluding tomorrow night.
The IceRays are 0-5-1 against the Jackalopes this year, with the one overtime loss coming back on December 10th in Odessa. In the most recent weekend series in mid-February, the IceRays fell by final scores of 3-1 and 5-1, despite outshooting the Jackalopes and putting forth a solid effort in each game.
The IceRays will look to avoid a 10th straight loss tonight which would be their longest skid of the season. They enter the contest with an overall record of 10-34-6 for 26 points.
The Jackalopes are coming off being swept by El Paso last weekend and have lost four of their last five. They come into tonight at 24-22-1-2 overall for 51 points, sitting at 6th in the South.
Players to Watch
IceRays centerman Nils Forselius recorded eight points in his first 11 games with the team. The Guilford, CT native has one point in his past five games and is poised to break out once again. He has a goal in the two games he’s played the Jackalopes this season. Look for the West Point-commit to be a factor for the IceRays offense this weekend.
Odessa veteran forward Dayne Hoyord had three goals and three assists in the most recent series against the IceRays back in mid-February, but has similarly cooled off lately, with a point in his last five games played. The Wisconsin native has nine points against the IceRays this year and is fourth on the team with 37 points. Also a West Point-commit, Hoyord will be a future teammate of Nils Forselius; look for him to break through this weekend for Odessa.
