American Heart Association Receives $11,105 from the Corpus Christi IceRays

Corpus Christi, TX. – March 22, 2018 – The Corpus Christi IceRays have generously donated $11,105 to benefit the American Heart Association’s annual Coastal Bend Heart Walk. The Corpus Christi IceRays presented the American Heart Association with the $11,105 dollar donation on Tuesday, March 20th at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX.

The 2018 Coastal Bend Heart Walk, benefiting the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association, is set for 8:00 AM on October 6th, 2018 at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.  Thousands of individual walkers and local company and community teams will be taking steps to improve their heart health while raising funds and awareness for the American Heart Association in its fight against cardiovascular diseases. This year’s Heart Walk includes a family-friendly three mile walk, CPR demonstrations, live entertainment, and more. Participation is free and walkers who raise money are eligible for prizes.

“We are proud to support the American Heart Association and all its efforts locally to combat cardiovascular disease and stroke,” said Scott McClarren, Vice President of the Corpus Christi IceRays.

“We are grateful to the Corpus Christi IceRays for this gift and their continued support in our efforts to improve our community’s health,” said Brittany Sandbach, Heart Walk Director, American Heart Association, Corpus Christi.

Approximately 2,400 Americans die from a cardiovascular disease every day; in fact, heart disease and stroke are America’s number one and number five killers, respectively.  Studies show that a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease is lack of physical activity, but that just 30 minutes a day of an activity like walking can improve your health and decrease your risk.

Heart Walks combine fitness with philanthropy.  Each year, more than 1 million walkers participate in nearly 350 Heart Walk events in cities across the country. Proceeds from these events go toward the American Heart Association’s research, education, and community programs; 75 percent of the dollars raised remain in the local affiliate. If you would like to participate in the Heart Walk or get your company or co-workers involved, visit www.coastalbendheartwalk.org or contact CoastalBendHeartWalk@heart.org, 361-445-3190.

The IceRays are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Corpus Christi and have been partners with the American Heart Association for the last three years. The IceRays can clinch the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division this weekend when they head to Shreveport to take on the Mudbugs in their last road trip of the regular season. The games will be broadcast on HockeyTV and on SportsRadio Corpus Christi (1230 AM, 95.1 FM, 96.1 FM). Saturday’s game will be streamed at the IceRays Watch Party at Hardknocks Sports Lounge & Grill on 5862 Everhart Road in Corpus Christi.
