Odessa, TX (March 18th, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays’ next game is tonight, Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at Ector County Coliseum. Puck drops at 7:15 PM CDT against the Odessa Jackalopes.
Game Preview
St. Patrick’s Day brought the luck of the Irish for the IceRays last night as they defeated the Jackalopes, snapping their second nine-game losing streak of the season. Despite falling to a 1-0 deficit, the IceRays would go on to score five unanswered goals in route to a 5-1 win at Ector County Coliseum. Five different IceRays scored last night, getting contributions from three different forward lines as well as a couple defensemen. Nils Forselius and Anthony Cafarelli each had two points in the game.
The IceRays will look to pull off their second weekend sweep of the season tonight. They enter the game 11-34-6 for 28 points, sitting in 8th place in the South.
The Jackalopes have now dropped four straight and have scored two goals or less in each of those games. They come into tonight with an overall record of 24-23-1-2 for 51 points and sitting in 6th place in the South.
Players to Watch
IceRays veteran forward Dylan Contreras extended his point streak to three straight games with another assist in last night’s win. The Yorba Linda, CA native recently hit triple digits in terms of career NAHL games (all of which have been with the IceRays) and surpassed 50 career points. He had four points in eight games against Odessa last season. Look for Contreras to lead the charge in a potential sweep over the Jackalopes tonight.
Odessa veteran forward Justin Hughes had the lone goal for the Jackalopes last night. The NJ-native now has two goals in three games against the IceRays this year and has two points in his last four games coming into tonight. At 6’4”, Hughes is a big forward who protects the puck well and is one of their weapons up front. Look for him to play a role as the Jackalopes look to even the weekend series here tonight.
