IceRays Hit Oklahoma City, Look to Extend Winning Streak to 3

Jan 27, 2023

Oklahoma City, OK (Jan. 27, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays’ next game is tonight, Friday, January 27th, 2023 at the Blazers Ice Centre. Puck drops at 7:15 PM CDT against the Oklahoma Warriors.

Last Time Out

The IceRays are fresh off their first weekend sweep of the season, and what better opponent than the South Division-leading Lone Star Brahmas. The IceRays won a thriller in the opening game of the weekend series 6-4, a contest in which they trailed 3-1 heading into the final 20 minutes and scored five goals in the third, including the game winner with just 1:26 left in regulation that came off the stick of Blake Lewis.

Newly appointed Captain Anthony Cafarelli was dominant for the IceRays, recording four goals and an assist in the two-game set. It was exciting to see the instant synergy between Cafarelli and his new linemate, center Nils Forselius, who was acquired from the Aberdeen Wings last week. Forselius posted four assists in his weekend debut.

Corpus Christi goaltender Lukas Malant is playing with the most confidence we’ve seen all season, combining for 66 saves in the weekend series and winning his third consecutive game.

The IceRays power play has also sprung to life, which wrung in four goals last weekend against the Brahmas.

Players to Watch – Battle of the Tenders

Many of the IceRays players deserve to be recognized, but it would be impossible not to highlight goaltender Lukas Malant who got the first star of the game last Saturday against Lone Star. The Czech-native is riding a three game winning streak and is a huge reason for the IceRays recent success. He made 66 saves in the weekend sweep over the Brahmas, and kicked out 50 pucks two weekends ago to help the IceRays defeat the Ice Wolves and snap a nine-game skid.

In the opposite crease stands Cameron Korpi, who ranks third across the entire NAHL in terms of GAA at 1.97. The Michigan-native has lost only three games in regulation all season and has been a big part of Oklahoma’s success. He announced his commitment to Western Michigan University of the NCHC back in November of 2021.
