ICERAYS HOLD ON FOR 3-2 WIN ON PINK IN THE RINK

Oct 29, 2016

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays (6-6-1-2) score three goals in the second period and hold off the Shreveport Mudbugs (9-5-0-1) for a 3-2 win on Saturday night at the American Bank Center for Pink In The Rink.

The IceRays came out with a sense of urgency in the opening period and recorded the game’s first six shots before the Mudbugs gained their first. However, power play opportunities gave way to the opening goal for Shreveport. At 16:26, forward Georgui Feduolov found a loose puck in the slot and snapped it glove side to edge ahead 1-0.

The second period saw a spike in scoring and the push back the IceRays were looking for starting at 5:21. IceRays forward Mason Krueger was set up by linemates Brad Power and David Baskerville for an open shot in front of the net for his third in two games to tie the contest, 1-1. Then, at 7:49, IceRays forward David Thomson found a loose rebound down low and tucked it in amid traffic to edge the home side ahead, 2-1. The Mudbugs did find an answer to stop the run with a tally from forward Erik Zohovs at 10:51 to knot the score back up, 2-2. The IceRays weren’t done, and at 13:01 forward David Baskerville also tucked in a rebound for his first of the season and another IceRays lead, 3-2.

The third period stayed mainly in neutral territory throughout the frame. The IceRays held their own line to keep the Mudbugs away from their zone, and despite the Mudbugs pulling the goalie late, the IceRays held on for the 3-2 win to claim two of three games on the weekend. IceRays goaltender Camden Burggrabe (2-0-1) earned the win, stopping 19 of 21 shots, while Mudbugs netminder John Roberts (4-3-0) was saddled with the loss in a 31-for-34 save effort.
