The IceRays dropped their sixth game of the year in overtime last night in what was truly a commendable effort, scoring four unanswered goals and getting contributions from up and down the roster. Now 1-1-1 against the Wranglers this season, they’ll look to take three out of a possible four points on this weekend swing. The IceRays enter tonight’s contest with an overall record of 10-29-6 for 26 points.
With the win, Amarillo is now 5-5 in its last 10 games. Odessa’s 5-4 SO win over El Paso last night keeps the Wranglers locked in 6th place in the South and still outside the playoff picture. They enter tonight with an overall record of 22-19-2-1 for 47 points.
Players to Watch
Wolfgang Govedaris was one of the most noticeable players on the ice last night for the IceRays, stymying the Amarillo attack and activating on the rush to create opportunities in the offensive zone. He also sacrificed his body by blocking a shot on what was a huge penalty kill in the third period to keep the Wranglers off the board. Govedaris will play in his 35th career game as an IceRay tonight and look for the smooth-skating, Bristol native to be a difference maker for Corpus Christi.
Chase Davis led the Wranglers with three points and was a +3 in last night’s game. The Georgia native now has five points in three games against the IceRays this year and leads the team with 36 points. Look for the big 6’4” centerman to be a factor once again tonight in what will be his 65th game in a Wranglers uniform.
