ICERAYS LOOK TO BUILD OFF CAMP SUCCESS; MORE DATES ADDED

Mar 15, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays couldn’t be more happy about the product they took from the off-season camps last summer, and this years’ camps will be even more competitive as more dates have been added.

The IceRays will return to upstate New York for an open camp and have also added a pre-draft camp in Dallas, Texas to the mix as well.

“Last summer we were happy with the locations we structured, and this year is no different,” said head coach Justin Quenneville.  “Having the opportunity to return to NY(Open), Dallas(Main) and the Chowder Cup (Tournament) is exciting, however we have decided to add a Pre-Draft Camp in Dallas, TX in May that is sure to be competitive.”

The decision on the locations of the camps are in most part due to the feedback and history of the locations as well said Quenneville.  “Last year was a success with our camps and locations.  We are fortunate to have narrowed down to distinct locations where we have encountered tremendous feedback as well as competitive camp history.  While we are still finalizing the details, we have determined that these locations and dates will be accurate.”

The IceRays have released a “tab” on their website where players can specifically pick out camps and sign up for them online.  “We hope to get a good participation at our summer camps. Knowing that we have several spots open on our 2012-2013 roster, it should be a very interesting summer for our coaching and scouting staff to go out and find that one player that fits our needs,” said IceRays General Manager Pat Dunn.  “We hope to be as successful as last season in finding some key players, where we obtained players such as Anthony Stolarz and Brandon Smith just to name a few.”

Corpus Christi will visit Valley Ranch, Texas from May 25th to May 27th at the Dr. Pepper Star Center.  Then, the IceRays will head northeast where they will host an open camp in Clifton Park, New York from July 14th to the 16th inside the Clifton Park Arena.  The annual Chowder Cup takes place July 19th-22nd before the Main Camp (invite only) is August 3rd, 4th, 5th from the Dr. Pepper Star Center once again.

“As always, we will continue our reputation as an organization that sets a standard in everything we do, Quenneville added.  “And we will look to continue with the professional operation of all events this summer while maintaining a competitive and opportunistic environment for young hockey players."

This past summer, these camps produced the likes of undrafted/untendered players such as Mike Dery, Brandon Smith, Perry D'Arrisso, Matt Weis (Ohio State University),Travis Maxwell, Phil Pietroniro, Greg Chapman, and Anthony Stolarz (University of Nebraska-Omaha)

The IceRays are in Amarillo tonight and tomorrow night.  Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on ESPN Radio 1440AM.
