IceRays Look to Even Series with Jackalopes on Alumni Night

Feb 18, 2023

Corpus Christi, TX (Feb 18, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays’ next game is tonight, Saturday, February 18th, 2023 at the American Bank Center. Puck drops at 7:05 PM CDT against the Odessa Jackalopes.

Highlights from Last Night

The IceRays did not have the spark they were hoping for off the opening draw last night but started to settle in as the first period carried on. The score was 1-1 after 20 minutes thanks to Logan Neilson’s sixth of the year which tied the game at the 12:31 mark of the period.

The second period was perhaps the IceRays best period, in which they outshot the Jackalopes 15-8 but found themselves down 2-1 heading into the final frame.

We unfortunately didn’t see the fight we had hoped for from the IceRays in the third period in which they were outshot 14-7. Dayne Hoyord added some insurance for Odessa late in the final stanza, his third goal of the game, to make it 3-1 and seal the deal for the Jackalopes.

Lukas Malant looked solid in net for the IceRays, making 28 saves in the loss. Gergely Orosz continued his stellar play against Corpus Christi this season, stopping 33 of 34 last night.

Game Preview

The IceRays will look to pick up their seventh win on home ice this season as they welcome several alumni back at the American Bank Center tonight. They enter the contest with an overall record of 10-28-5 for 25 points.

The Jackalopes are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games and sit 11 points outside the playoff picture. They’ll look to make it 11 road wins on the year with a victory tonight.

Be sure to check out the pregame scavenger hunt in the concourse as well as an autograph session with your favorite IceRays alumni. It’s also Family 4-Pack Night which means four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, and a bucket of popcorn all for just $64. Don’t forget to stick around for the postgame skate with the IceRays after tonight’s contest.

Players to Watch

Winger Logan Neilson has continued to produce for the IceRays. He has three points in his last three games and scored the lone goal for Corpus Christi last night, his sixth of the season and third against Odessa. Neilson and his linemates, Blake Lewis and Cam Crolley, have combined for nine points over the past three games. Look for the man they call the “British Bulldog” to be a factor once again tonight.

Jackalopes forward Dayne Hoyord notched his third career NAHL hat trick last night, all of which have come against the IceRays. The Scandinavia, WI native has been red hot, with seven goals and four assists over his last seven games. He has six points in five games against the IceRays this year and has the longest tenure on the Jackalopes roster. Keep an eye on Hoyord in his 149th game with the Jackalopes this evening.
