IceRays Look to Solve Top-Seeded Warriors in Weekend Finale

Feb 4, 2023

Corpus Christi, TX (Feb 4, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays’ next game is tonight, Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at the American Bank Center. Puck drops at 7:15 PM CDT against the Oklahoma Warriors.

Recap of Last Night

The IceRays were shutout for the fourth time this season after Oklahoma netminder Daniel Duris kicked out all 36 shots thrown his way last night. The IceRays had an energetic start and registered the first four shots of the game within the first 90 seconds. Anthony Cafarelli infused even more energy into the building when he dropped the gloves with Warriors defenseman Owen Dyer at the 12:42 mark of the first period.

It was a balanced 20 minutes overall with the ice tilting in Oklahoma’s favor in the latter half of the period, and Malte Hasselgren opening the scoring at 16:17 for his fifth goal against the IceRays this year to make it 1-0 Warriors.

The IceRays killed off a couple penalties in the second period but still found themselves down 3-0 after 40 minutes due to tallies from Oklahoma forwards Blaise Miller and Brendan Williams.

The IceRays went on a 5-on-3 man advantage early in the third and had a golden chance to get themselves back in the game, but the top-ranked Warriors penalty kill kept the IceRays off the board and even led to an insurance goal as Joey Delgreco stepped out of the box and set up William Lawson-Body for his 10th of the year. Garrett Horsager would add a goal on the power play to make it a 5-0 game.

The IceRays went 0-for-3 on the man advantage and killed off three of four Oklahoma power plays. Lukas Malant was terrific in net for the IceRays despite the loss, turning aside 38 of the 43 shots he faced.

Players to Watch

IceRays winger Stepan Kuznetsov led all IceRays with five shots on goal last night and has three points in his last five games. The Biloxi, MS native leads the team with 11 goals this season and has registered more shots on goal than any other IceRay at 79 on the year. He also recorded three points in four games against this Warriors team last season. Look for Kuznetsov to be a difference maker here tonight.

Oklahoma Captain William Lawson-Body was named second star of the game last night and led the team with a goal and two assists. The Grand Forks, ND native has points in four straight games, with eight points over the span. He will be playing in his 139th game tonight for the Warriors, the longest tenure among all active players.
