Corpus Christi, TX (Feb 17, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays were edged 3-1 by the Odessa Jackalopes at the American Bank Center on Friday, February 17th, 2023.

The Jackalopes had the clear edge out of the gate as they registered the first four shots on net and opened the scoring at the 4:24 mark of the first period thanks to Dayne Hoyord’s seventh of the year.
The IceRays started to warm to the task around the midway point of the first frame and it was the third line getting it done once again, as Cam Crolley found Logan Neilson camped out in front who rifled one past Odessa netminder Gergely Orosz for his sixth of the year and third goal against Odessa since joining the IceRays.
The IceRays looked a little more determined to start the second period and were awarded a power play early in the period yet were unable to capitalize. Shortly thereafter, it was Dayne Hoyord again on a great individual effort, winning the race to a loose puck in the Corpus Christi zone and tucking one past Lukas Malant to put Odessa up 2-1 at the 5:12 mark of the second period.
The IceRays entered the third stanza down 2-1 and were forced to kill off an early penalty. The IceRays would get one final power play opportunity at the 10:23 mark but were unable to beat Orosz. Dayne Hoyord would finish a nice backdoor feed from Emerson Goode at 17:52 to complete the hat trick and put the Jackalopes up 3-1 which was your final.
The IceRays outshot the Jackalopes for the second time this year but are now 0-4-1 in the season series. Lukas Malant kicked out 28 of the 31 shots he faced. Gergely Orosz was solid at the other end, turning aside 33 of 34. The IceRays killed off both of Odessa’s power play opportunities and were scoreless on three power plays of their own.
