Amarillo, TX (Feb 24, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays’ next game is tonight, Friday, February 24th, 2023 at Budweiser Bull Pen. Puck drops at 7:15 PM CDT against the Amarillo Wranglers.
Game Preview
The IceRays will look to pick up their fifth win on the road this season as they head to Amarillo for the first time this year. They’re 1-1 against the Wranglers this season and enter the contest with an overall record of 10-29-5 for 25 points.
The IceRays split their first and only weekend series against the Wranglers back in mid-November at the American Bank Center. The IceRays edged the Wranglers 3-2 thanks to Stepan Kuznetsov’s game winning goal in the third period, never trailing the entire game. In game two of the weekend series, the IceRays held a 2-1 lead late in the second period, but three unanswered goals from the Wranglers led them to a 4-2 victory. Lukas Malant made 35 saves in the loss.
The Wranglers are 4-6 in their last 10 games and sit nine points outside the playoff picture. They’ll look to make it 13 wins on home ice this year with a victory tonight.
Players to Watch
IceRays defenseman Ryan Hintz has been one of the most sound IceRays defensemen all year and last weekend was no different. He had an assist on Saturday and should’ve had his first goal of the season if not for a controversial disallowed goal call. The Roscoe, IL native can play in all three zones and has lately quarterbacked the powerplay. Look for “Hintzy” to be a difference maker in his 44th game with the IceRays tonight.
Sticking with the blue line, look out for Amarillo defenseman Pierce Patterson. The Austin, TX native leads the team with 34 points and is tied for first across the entire league in terms of highest scoring defensemen. He had a goal and an assist against the IceRays back on November 12th and comes into tonight’s matchup with three points in his last four games. Look for Patterson to be a factor tonight.
