ICERAYS PREP FOR COMPETITIVE MAIN CAMP

Jul 31, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays are gearing up for the 2012 Main Camp that begins this Friday and goes all the way through Sunday to determine the 15th year anniversary IceRays squad.

The main camp tryout will be held in Farmers Branch, Texas after being moved from Valley Ranch due to uncontrollable circumstances.

Head coach Justin Quenneville says it’s the type of camp that is run which creates the competitiveness.  “We have been fortunate over the course of the last three off-season’s to build on what has made us successful, and that is the professional and dedicated environment we have created here which starts with our summer camps,” Quenneville said.  “We operate differently than most teams in that we limit the amount of invitations for our Main Camp.  This creates a smaller, more competitive and opportunistic tryout for every player in attendance.  Moving forward, I expect an even faster, smarter, more physical, and more skilled group this year.   It will make for an exciting three days.”

Fans can follow the camp through the IceRays Facebook page and twitter account.  Video will also be available through IceRays TV on YouTube.

Although Quenneville is familiar with all the players in attendance, he says the front office, scouts, and others in attendance will be impressed with some of the newcomers.  “Although I am familiar with all the players that will be in attendance at the Main Camp, for many, this will be the first time they see players such as Ian McGilvrey, Rudy Sulmonte, Mike Economos, Jett Salinas and many of our other tenders and draft picks.  Additional players like Charles Baldwin and Tommy Telesca that we have recruited over the course of the summer will draw a lot of attention as well.  We expect all these players along with a returning class to set a tone on Day one of Main Camp.”

Friday morning of camp will kick off with practices for all players in attendance.  The games will begin later that afternoon and Saturday.  The All-Star game takes place Sunday morning.

“We have recruited a high end class of hockey players this year, Quenneville ended.  “And this year like every other, our expectations increase and so will the result.”
