CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Three power play goals in the second period helped to shut down the Corpus Christi IceRays (8-9-1-2) in a 3-0 loss to the Lone Star Brahmas (18-3-1-0) on Friday night at the American Bank Center.

After a low-shooting first period with only a combined 10 shots, the Brahmas power play cashed in on their first three opportunities presented. On the game’s first penalty, Brahmas forward Hunter Stanley earned a centering pass from forward Carson Kelley in front of the net and chipped it through the legs of netminder Tomáš Vomáčka at 1:52 to earn a 1-0 lead. After two IceRays picked up penalties, Brahmas forward Drake Glover knocked in his team-leading 14th goal of the season at 12:25 to double the lead, 2-0. Less than a minute later at 13:19, Brahmas forward Troy York scored on a breakaway from a long pass by defenseman Simon Loof to triple the lead, 3-0.

At the start of the third period, Vomáčka was pulled in favor of Camden Burggrabe. The IceRays comeback efforts were shut down in the third period in the neutral zone while being outshot 9-5, leading to the Brahmas 3-0 win and the first shutout of the IceRays this season.

Brahmas netminder Alec Calvaruso (8-1-0) earned his first shutout of the season, stopping all 20 shots faced. Vomáčka (4-8-1) halted nine of 12 shots in 39:09 minutes, and Burggrabe turned away all nine shots in 20:51 minutes.
