IceRays Shut Out By Brahmas On Pink In The Rink Night Saturday

Oct 29, 2023

Corpus Christi, Texas – Rebounding from a loss, especially a disappointing one, is always something that brings extra motivation for teams and players.

When you bounce back early in the next game, the momentum and adrenaline gets flowing and positive things can happen.

But when adversity hits you early, it’s difficult to combat.

The Lone Star Brahmas scored early in the first period and got three more in the second on their way to a 6-0 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays on Pink in the Rink Night Saturday night at the American Bank Center.

Copeland Fricker got a goal and Jacob MacDonald scored three for a hat trick with all three coming in less than five minutes in the second period. Brock James and Justin Kerr added goals in the third.

The Brahmas (12-5-0, 1SOL) followed up their 5-3 victory on Friday to win their third straight and are 9-1 in their last 10 games and 9-1-0, 1SOL in their last 11.

Lone Star still leads El Paso for first place in the NAHL South Division by two points.

Corpus Christi (5-9-1, 1SOL) suffered their first shutout loss of the season.

“It was definitely a disappointment, that’s for sure,” IceRays head coach Sylvain Cloutier said.

Lone Star built leads of 3-0 and 4-1 and although the IceRays fought back, the hole proved too deep to dig out of.

Fricker put the Brahmas up 1-0 on his first goal of the season at 2:28 of the first period.

MacDonald collected his first of the year at 1:40 of the second. He would come right back with his second of the night and season at 5:15.

Less than a minute later, McDonald completed the hat trick with his third of the night on the power play at 6:01.

James scored his sixth goal of the season on the power play at 13:34 of the third period and Justin Kerr got his eighth of the year with the man-advantage at 14:48.

Lone Star was 4-for-15 on the power play while the IceRays were 0-for-3.

Vilgot Holm suffered his second-straight loss in goal and is 2-5 this season.

The IceRays offense didn’t have it on this night as Lone Star outshot Corpus Christi 46-19, including 15-6 in the first period, 14-9 in the second and 17-4 in the third.

The IceRays have a bye week before hosting the Oklahoma Warriors Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11 at the American Bank Center.

“I think we can put this weekend behind us and move on,” Cloutier said. “We have two weeks to regroup and get ready for Oklahoma City.”
