Amarillo, TX (March 25, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays were defeated by the Amarillo Wranglers 7-3 at Budweiser Bull Pen on Saturday, March 25th, 2023.
Game Action
While the IceRays did a good job of weathering Amarillo’s first period push last night, the same could not be said tonight as Chase Davis snapped one by Patrik Jurcak just 3:39 into the game to put the Wranglers up 1-0. The IceRays racked up a couple penalties which put Amarillo on a 5-on-3 man advantage for the second time this weekend, and it was Chase Davis who found the back of the net again at 8:37 to give the Wranglers a two goal cushion. The IceRays trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes despite outshooting the Wranglers 12-8.
The IceRays could not have had much of a better start to the second period as Nils Forselius notched a pair of goals within a 71-second span. Both tallies came off great rushes that were generated by Wolfgang Govedaris and Stepan Kuznetsov, respectively.
A minute later, however, Wranglers forward Jack Ivey buried a feed from Rihards Simanovics to put the Wranglers back up by one. Three more tallies about halfway through the period from Ronan Walsh, Rihards Simanovics (SHG), and Pierce Patterson (PPG) extended the Amarillo lead to 6-2. The IceRays broke through with a power play goal of their own on Stepan Kuznetsov’s 13th of the year to make it a 6-2 game at the 17:15 mark of the second period. Amarillo’s Patterson would add his second power play goal of the game at 18:44 to put the Wranglers up 7-3.
That was all the scoring to be had for the rest of the night in what was a feisty contest, particularly in the second period where multiple misconducts were handed out. The IceRays accrued 68 penalty minutes in the game and allowed three Amarillo power play goals. They had two power play goals of their own on seven attempts. The final shot count was 38-35 in favor of Amarillo.
