IceRays Swept by Brahmas after 4-2 Defeat

Jan 27, 2025

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Lone Star Brahmas (30-6-3) extend their win streak to 12 games after a 4-2 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays (25-10-3) on Sunday afternoon at the American Bank Center. It was the first time this season the IceRays have been swept on home ice.

Just 41 seconds into the contest the IceRays were caught with too many men on the ice sending Will Reardon to the box to serve the penalty and putting the Brahmas on a man advantage. Lone Star would cash in on their opportunity off a shot from Ryan Comishock that was deflected by Saxton Tess past IceRays Goalie Waylon Esche for his 10th goal of the season. Later in the frame IceRays Defenseman Matteus Soderbom made an excellent individual effort to drive the Brahmas net and squirt a puck past Ryan Cameron, but it was deemed goaltender interference and the goal was waved off. In search of the tying goal the IceRays get their second power play of the period with under six minutes to go. Corpus Christi put together a beautiful passing play that led to Pierson Sobush on buisness end of a one timer that beat Cameron to bring the IceRays back to level at one heading into the 1st intermission.

The game started to open up in the 2nd period and the Brahmas took advantage in the first 10 minutes. Elias Kumlin, Owen Kerr, and Leo Bergstrom scored three unanswered goals for Lone Star making it a 4-1 Brahmas lead. The IceRays were looking for a spark and they got it from Forward Carter Krenke who drove the puck into the offensive zone, pushed it to Michael Valdez who spun it on net creating a rebound and Krenke lifted it over the pads of Cameron to cut the Brahmas deficit to two.

The IceRays made a push in the final period, but could not solve the puzzle of Cameron who was able to keep his net clean in the third. Cameron made 22 saves en route to his 11th straight victory in net. The best chances of the period for Corpus Christi came with the extra attacker and the Brahmas some how kept out a couple of point blank chances in front of their net. The Brahmas swept the IceRays with a 4-2 win and will host the IceRays for a three game series next weekend in North Richland Hills.
